Poetry From Motion: A Cabinet Sprung From a Gym Floor

Our new website dedicated to sports flooring is beginning to take shape, ready to tell you everything you need to know about installing and maintaining a gymnasium or sports court. We’ll let you know when it is properly off the blocks.

In the meantime, we thought you might like to see this gem, a cabinet created out of an old high school sports floor.

People have a thing about sports markings. When they might strip other kinds of flooring back to its original state, they often see art, poetry maybe, almost certainly something from their youth in sports flooring.

We owe the Inhabitat blog for bringing this piece by Denmark’s Soren Rose studio to our attention:

Dubbed ‘Gymnasium’, the collection was inspired by the glory days of high school and is made from recycled gym flooring. These cabinets are not only assembled with renewable, recycled and low-impact materials — they also pay tribute to the simplicity and spirit of the games that once graced their floorboards.

Exactly. And without the slightest hint of old sports socks.
