Wood Flooring is Just Gorgeous Period

by liambailey on February 11, 2010

As some of you will know I am an avid follower of literally dozens of wood flooring and reclaimed flooring blogs, and it doesn’t matter how many different and wonderful wood flooring creations I see I am always filled with a feeling of awe by shine of  the deep lustre finishes.

I have written a series on individual wood flooring species called Flooring in Focus over at the Wood Floor Guru blog, and almost every article (and maybe every single article) starts by saying that the brand and species of wood flooring chosen for that particular post is the most gorgeous I have ever seen.

This, I have now realised is because, at that time when I see it, this feeling of awe makes me forget my previous favourite and write excitedly that this one is now my favourite wood floor in terms of beauty.

What brought me to this realisation river-reclaimedwas a Tweet about a wood floor that had been crafted from wood reclaimed from the St John’s River in Orlando.

We all know that wood and water do not mix, and when I clicked on the link to the image I expected it to be “OK” but I expected it to be almost immediately visible that the wood used had spent a considerable amount of time semi-submerged in fast-flowing freshwater.

Amazingly it wasn’t. I was filled with the same — “oh my god that is just gorgeous” — feeling that inspired this article about the realisation that wood flooring, properly laid and finished is always going to be absolutely gorgeous.

Don’t get me wrong; you can tell that the wood in that picture is different to your average wood, and while it is reclaimed it has a new-like surface. But this all gives it its own unique character.

That is one of the greatest things about reclaimed flooring, apart from the price and the green aspect; that it has character and history to it.

Every wood floor new and old is different and unique and with its own character, but on reclaimed floorboards every blemish represents a story from its past.

I agree, wood flooring is gorgeous in any area of your home. And with prices dropping by the day it seems they are also becoming more and more popular.

Hardwood Flooring is the best choice to increase the value of your home. If you ever decide to sell, people will most likely be drawn to a house with hardwood in it before a house with carpet in it.
